Advice for Life
Teased By Workmates

Dear Amanda,

I recently attended a work colleague's fancy-dress birthday party where I dressed up in a black and red lycra suit. Ever since the party, my friends have been making fun of a certain part of my body and kept ribbing me about missing pairs of socks.

I really didn't give the costume a second. thought when hired it but now my colleagues have have blown up pictures of me in the costume and have plastered them around the office. I think It has jeopardized my chances of getting a promotion at work as people refuse to take me seriously.

What can I do to save what is left of my reputation?

Dear Michael,

It does sound like it is all in fun. And it is okay to reveal a 'different side' of yourself in a party situation. The key is to behave in a sensible and professional manner at work.

After a respectable time period has elapsed (it's probably been long enough now) remove the photos from the walls. Be a bit serious about your work and the workplace, and your employers will respond to that, rather than to what they've heard or seen about your out-of-work activities. Your ongoing daily behaviour will be much more important to them than an incident that is well behind you.
