Psychologist study tour to Israel
Amanda Gordon Hon FAPS will be leading an APS Study Tour to Israel for Psychologists in May 2014. The tour begins on May 8 and ends on May 29.
It aims to promote positive interchange of ideas between Israeli and Australian psychologists. In particular, the tour aims to further professional practitioner skills. Particular themes include spirituality and interfaith/cross-cultural work, positive psychology, trauma and resilience – areas in which Australia and Israel have common interests, and in which Israel’s research expertise is world-class.
If you’re considering the tour, read a selection of testimonials from various psychologists who have participated in the tour. For a full list of testimonials, click here.
“…the trip for me provided a unique insight into another culture(s) that was strikingly different to my own. I have come away professionally with a greater appreciation of the complexities that face Israel, and the region more broadly. Being able to discuss the research that is taking place around PTSD and experience the day-to-day expressions of resilience of people was a highlight for me. On a personal level, I have found that one of the things that resonated for me the most was the level of compassion and community cohesiveness. This is something that I have been more mindful of in my own life.”
“On reflection, I must say that I think you did an extraordinary job organising our trip, and enabling us to see and do so much. And, I did love Israel and will certainly visit again in the next couple of years. The model of trauma, and the stories from the JCIC, Selah, Sderot, Haifa, and Natal are powerful messages.”
“What a great trip we had. You did a wonderful job organizing a trip full of history, culture, religion, spirituality, politics and psychology. Was very privileged to get such indepth exposure in this time. Thank you!”
“I just wanted to thank you and the APS for allowing me to be involved. I had a great time and loved learning about all the services and issues in Israel. It was extremely enlightening on both a professional and personal level. Further I want to commend you for initiating this program, and I could see the impact it had on everyone who came.”
