Private Counselling
"We are there to listen - and to help you move on."

Often our clients ask us, “Is the way I’m feeling normal?” Usually the answer is, “Yes”.

However, there are ways of altering the way we think about ourselves so we can manage our lives better.

Our Psychologists Can Help

Psychologists are trained counsellors. We understand how problems and difficulties can disrupt people’s lives and disturb their peace and well-being. A supportive environment and an expert listener can help people to cope and manage their situation. The psychologists at Armchair Psychology Practice are skilled in providing that assistance.

Our Services Are Tailored To Individual Needs

We help people of all ages - adults, adolescents, and children - to cope with obstacles to their peace of mind and sense of well being. In individual, couple, or family sessions - whatever is most appropriate - we examine critical problems and difficulties and discuss ways of dealing with situations.

Our clients discover new ways of viewing themselves and others while learning alternative ways of acting and reacting. In the process, they are likely to discover personal qualities they may have overlooked.

We Work Together

Before the first meeting with a psychologist, many people feel nervous, embarrassed or worried. However, we do our best to help people feel at ease while we work with them to find ways of managing their situation. We help them to create their own picture of how they would like their life to be. Then we train them in the skills needed to make that picture a reality.

The focus of our sessions is twofold: first helping clients to understand how problems are impacting on their lives, and then helping them to develop skills to deal with them. This practical approach means the time clients spend consulting us is likely to be much shorter than long term therapy offered elsewhere.

Usually, the scope of a client’s problem will determine the number of counselling sessions required. Whilst many people can be helped with just one or two sessions, others need longer to disentangle the many complex factors affecting their lives.

We Offer Group Sessions Too

Some people benefit from discussing their concerns with others who can relate to their situation. Our practice organises several support groups including:

  • “Baby Blues” for new mothers
  • “Stop Teasing” for primary school children
  • “Getting it Together” for senior high school students.

We Help With Problems

We have helped people to manage: addictions, anxiety and panic attacks, behavioural problems, bereavement, children’s learning difficulties, depression and mood swings, divorce, eating and weight control problems, fears and phobias, illness and disability, marital and family problems, pain, relationship problems, sexual and sleeping difficulties, shyness, stress, and unresolved grief.
